A Day of "Firsts" ...

Saturday morning dawned bright and early, and I awoke with an unusual urge to be productive!  (Now that might sound like I enjoy being lazy on Saturdays ... but what I'm trying to say is that I DO enjoy sleeping in on Saturdays and it WAS unusual for me to be outside bright and early at 9:00 attacking the hedges with a vengeance!!) Chris was inside studying for his upcoming NICET (Fire Alarm Certification) test and trying to heal a bad pulled muscle in his back ... So I was trimming solo.

It was a beautiful day and I was thoroughly enjoying my time outside in the sunshine.  The hedges were looking quite nice if I do say so myself and around 1:30 pm ... the end was in sight!  One more hedge and then I can clean up and go inside.  But on the last bush, the last pass of the trimmer, something happened! Somehow I managed to catch my left index finger in the trimmer blades. ;-(  GREAT!

I went inside and tried to clean it up myself but quickly realized that I was going to need Chris's help to analyze the situation and help me see what I had actually done to myself!  So I walked into his office and said "Hey babe, can you come help me look at my finger?  I cut it with the hedge trimmers!"  He thought I was joking because I was so calm. ;-)  We stopped the bleeding and then decided to run over to his moms to let her bandage it up since we didn't have the best supplies.  But ... she took one look at it and recommended stitches!! YIKES!  The cut was right on the joint and pretty deep.

So ... Chris and I headed to Urgent Care.  Since we were there, he decided to be seen for his back too!  They put us in the same exam room and ended up giving Chris a anti-inflammatory shot for his back and I got 2 stitches and a tetanus shot!! I wasn't too excited about the idea but am so grateful that Chris made me go because my finger looks so much better now.  I tried to be really brave, but because of the pain of the local anaesthetic shot (hurt WAY more than I thought it would), the fact that I hadn't eaten since breakfast and the warm, stuffy exam room ... I passed out!!  She had just started the first stitch and I could feel myself going. The next thing I knew, I was laying down on the exam table with a cold cloth on my head!  Remember the guy (Chris) who had just been seen for a hurt back ... YEP he had to pick me up and put me on the table!  Oh my!!  After that, the second stitch and tetanus shot were a breeze. ;-)

It feels so strange to look at my hand and see stitches holding my finger together!
I know this is actually a really minor injury compared to what other's have experienced ... but this is the worst that I have ever had!  (For which I feel VERY blessed!)  My finger actually doesn't hurt at all now.  Which really surprises me!
I can even type this post without any trouble. ;-)

So ... it was a day of "first"

* 1st time in an exam room with my hubby!!
* 1st time to get stitches
* 1st time to pass out
