Last week was a long but thankfully very productive week at the Neighbor's renovation site. ;-) Chris and Jeffrey spent two more late evenings (after work till nearly midnight) working on re-routing electrical. It took longer than expected but they were able to conquer the task and I now have light switches in the correct places and a new outlet in the entry way!! So glad they knew what they were doing! ;-) Only had to pull out the fire extinguisher once! Just kidding!! I had it easy during the week ... just had to fix supper for two hungry guys, relay messages from the breaker box man to the attic man & remain on call for questions about switch locations and placement.
On Saturday, it was my turn to put in some "blood, sweat and tears!" Time to conquer the dreaded popcorn ceiling. Armed with a garden sprayer, putty knife, ladder and safety goggles, I went to work. I started at about 9:30 am and 6 hours later, an exhausted Hannah scrapped the final bit of popcorn off of the living room ceiling! I still have the short hallway and kitchen ceiling to do but they should feel like a piece of cake compared to the dining room/ living room. Here are some pictures of the process ...
All-in-All, it went really well ... but I'm not sure my neck or arms will ever be the same again!! ;-) Way too much time looking up with my arms over my head!
We even had our first injury on the job site.
I got too comfortable on the scaffolds (pictured below) and sustained a nice big purple bruise on the back of my leg! It's pretty impressive!! ;-)
It was very satisfying to hear the "popcorn" dropping down on the plastic below. I tried to make a "popcorn" angel but it didn't work so well. ;-)
This week we are meeting with Marvin Beachy (a member of our church & small group and father of our pastor's wife Deborah Martin) to figure out the trim, window casings & ceiling beams. I have some ideas but need to get my "ducks" in a row before he comes!
New windows are on the "to be ordered soon" list. ;-) Can't wait to see that transformation! We are planning to remove the drywall casing around each window and install wood casing and trim painted white. As you can see ... that will make a world of difference!
Feeling very blessed these days and absolutely loving the process of transforming our home together with my love! ;-)
As always, if you have any advice for these first time home renovators ... send it our way! ~ Love, Hannah
