Campout

On Saturday afternoon, the tents were taken down and the campfire extinguished as the yearly We Care campout came to an end ... all TOO soon.  After a short week of work, the entire We Care family gathered in Atmore at the headquarters building on Thursday for our 2012 Campout.  We had a blast!!

This was the 2nd year that the campout was held at the headquarters instead of an actual campground.  It works out wonderfully since our "family" has grown to nearly 100 people!!  Marj had quite a task preparing food for us all and let me just say ... we ate in true delicious Mennonite style! ;-)  It's not very often that you go "camping" and are served baked spaghetti and chicken enchiladas!  This year we had the options of tenting, sleeping inside the building or going home at night.  I chose to go home since Chris was working and I wanted to see him a little bit each evening.  It was the best sleep I've ever had when camping!! Haha  Chris came out and joined me for supper on Friday evening ... it was good to have him there with me.

On Friday we all loaded up and headed to a local State Park for the day.  It was the first time I had been there and I'm thinking it might be a good place to go when you guys come visit!  We had a really good time hiking, biking and swimming.  I spent most of my time hanging out with the kids and helping supervise the little guys in the water!  Here are some pictures of me and my little friends! ;-)

I got to know this little girl {Alyssa} a lot better this weekend!
She is the daughter of one of our newest chaplains so we are still getting to know their family.  Isn't she precious!

The younger kids spent most of the afternoon playing in the water on the parks unique spillway.  They have the river dammed up and a concrete spillway that apparently has been a favorite kids play area for many years. Many of the adults could remember playing there when they were kiddos!!  In the middle of the large concrete area below the damm, there was a ditch that ran down the center and created the perfect slippery slide.  The kids spent HOURS letting the water sweep them down the slide to the end of the spillway!

This adorable little girl {Ava} wasn't afraid to take off down the slide all by herself!!  She was my little buddy this weekend and an absolute joy to be around.

Ava's brothers, Isaiah and Dexter had a blast swimming in the shallow water
just on the other side of the dam.

I couldn't resist taking a picture of this curly headed cutie!  She {Elizabeth or "Lizzy"} put on LOT of "miles" running around this weekend.  It's a wonder her feet didn't wear off. ;-)  Her mom was constantly trying to track her down!

Hope this coming week is full of unexpected blessings!  I am starting to count down the days till my trip home to Oklahoma. ;-)

Good night!
Hannah
