Williams Station Day - Oct. 27th

A couple of Saturdays ago was Williams Station Day in Atmore.  A day where "Atmore residents turn back their clocks to 1866 when their community was named Williams Station - just a supply stop along the Mobile & Great Northern railroad." Historical Pensacola Ave. is blocked off for the day to make room for food and craft vendors and the front steps of the YMCA are transformed into a stage.

It was the end of a very chilly day and there weren't many people
sitting in the audience ... but this couple made me smile as they enjoyed
the music and each other!

Like any small town festival there were lots of food vendors selling the typical
cotton candy, funnel cakes and corn dogs.  But ... you could also find a boiled
peanut stand and a sugar cane mill.

We Care had a informational booth at Williams Station Day this year.  Our goal was to create more awareness of the connection between the 3 economy shops that we have and our main ministry focus behind prison walls.  We often find that people in the community think of We Care as simply their local "Walmart" ... or a place to shop.  They don't realize that the stores have a greater purpose!  We handed out balloons to the kiddos and coupons to the Economy Shop to the adults.

Here is a picture of our booth!  Please ignore my face!!  This is the best picture I have ... I was helping Noreen tie the string onto a balloon. ;-)

Our booth was across the road from this beautiful church building.
I love the distinctive Old Spanish style!

President Dave's wife Debbie has had a booth at Williams Station Day for the last 8 years.  She sells delicious baked good - cookies, pies, bread, whoopie pies etc...  As you can see when I took this picture she was nearly all sold out!  People come looking for her each year.

Hmmm... well, to wrap this up I guess I will go ahead a post a couple of pictures that I took just for fun!

Such a pretty pony!  Made me wish I was a little {okay ... a lot!} younger so that I could get a ride. ;-)

And finally ... the grand prize winner of the day!  Not sure who's idea this was but someone brought their poodle to Williams Station Day sporting a freshly dyed PINK hairdo! Poor thing!

Hope this made you smile!!  Love you guys,  Hannah
