Today was an exciting day in the town of Atmore! I had to be at church early for worship practice this morning and was grateful to make it before the downpour. I knew that we were in for quite a bit of rain but was surprised when I got a Tornado Warning Alert on my phone! Guess I hadn't been paying much attention to the forecast. We had just enough time to finish worship practice and for nearly everyone to arrive at church with their crock pots in tow for the fellowship meal after church ... when the power went out!! We had Sunday School by candlelight and then went ahead with a somewhat "normal" worship service. Turns out that worship practice was just for fun! No power = no mic for Hannah ;-) That's actually okay with me!! Really enjoyed the a capella hymns ;-) Fellowship meal was cancelled because as you can imagine ... the food in the crock pots was no longer warm!!
After church, Chris and I drove around to check out the damages. It turns out that there was a tornado that touched down on the South side of town. The worst damage was to Burke's Outlet & Fred's Department Store ... looks like a complete loss to Burke's not sure about Fred's. (Fred's might hang up the towel with the new Walmart almost finished!)
There were lots of trees, signs, roofs, trampolines and basketball goals down in the area! This is one of the worst tree/house situations that we saw. The damages came as close as the big curve right before our house!! Praising the Lord for sparing us and praying for those who are dealing with clean up. Thankfully there have been no reports of any injuries! Chris keeps telling me that this is "nothing like the damage after a hurricane" but it's quite a bit in my book!
On another note, the renovation continues ;-) ... Saturday, Tim came and we watched him frame up the new wall and doorway to our bedroom! We tried to be helpful but it really was a one man job. No drywall yet but at least it looks more like a door!
This week our goals are to finish the basic electrical rewiring (light/fan switches for kitchen, living and dining rooms) and scrape the popcorn ceiling. To be honest, I'm kinda dreading the popcorn ceiling project! I tested my "popcorn removal" method on a scrap piece of ceiling and it went pretty well so ... fingers crossed!! ;-)
Well, enough for now! Would love to hear from you guys. ;-) Send me an email or give me a call anytime! Love ya, Hannah
